Huckberrys Outerwear Sale Moonphase Automatic Watches & More The Thurs. Mens Sales Handful1/24/2019 Sales that deserve some attention heading into the weekend or a bit earlier. Might not be some massive once a year event, but still worth a look. Those are what make up these handfuls. Five of the better sales, one for each finger, are below, plus bonus sales if need be. Included are a few picks worth pointing out. J. Crew Factory: Extra 60% off Clearance + Extra 20% off for rewards members w/ BIGSALE
As mentioned yesterday in the steal alert, before those chino blazers got swooped up and the darn things sold out. Absolutely still a few items in clearance worth a look, especially if you can stack that extra 20% off rewards club (just an email sign up) discount at checkout. Code BIGSALE expires today, 1/24. Massdrop: Glycine Automatic Moonphase – $359.99 FINALThat… is a mighty fine price for the Glycine Combat 6 automatic moonphase. Swiss made. Lots of colors to pick from. Sapphire crystal too. Made our Dads and Grads watch list for this year. Runs $450 via Jomashop. Final sale though, being that it’s Massdrop. Ships at the end of February. Huckberry: 25% off Select Outerwear (even stuff already on sale)
With old man winter delivering an extra blast of “we are not done yet this year” to much of the country, perhaps you’re in the market for a new winter coat. Or an extra medium to lighter-weight layer. Huckberry has all that, and now it’s on sale. Very much on sale. 25% gets knocked off this selection of coats whether it’s on sale already or not. Full review of the Proof Field Jacket can be found here. It’s worth noting that when those things launched, they were originally priced at $248. So now with the sale and the extra 25% off, those are much, much more affordable. Bonobos: Extra 50% off Final Sale Items w/ METALDETECTOR
More. Picks. Here. Couple of new picks above. It’s all final sale, but… man… the prices. And plenty of Bonobos fans are super dedicated, and know their sizes and fits by heart. So, that lessens the risk. Notice I said lessens the risk. There’s always risk with final sale. Code expires today, Thursday 1/24. J. Crew: Extra 50% off Sale Styles w/ SALETIME
Not as good as its gotten with J. Crew’s bulging sale section as of late, but still worth a mention. Yet… if I click on ONE more item in their sale section and that damn “we’re sorry this item just sold out” message pops up… I’m gonna… well, I’ll do nothing. I have no power of repercussion here. Oh, and in other J. Crew news, Mickey Drexler is out. No, not like he was before (where he changed titles but still stayed on in some capacity…) he’s gone this time. Like, real gone. Also worth a mention:

Music is a little like food and clothes. These are areas where it’s probably worthwhile for one to explore & expand their tastes. The Playlist is assembled each month by Dappered’s very own music correspondent, Tim Johnstone. Tim is a former Virgin Records Label Rep & current award winning Program Director at KRVB, which was awarded the FMQB AAA station of the year markets 50+. You can also catch his work on Fridays when he assembles the Weekend Reset. Got a Spotify account? You’ll find a link to this month’s playlist at the end of the post. The Raconteurs – “Sunday Driver”<span data-mce-type=”bookmark” style=”display: inline-block; width: 0px; overflow: hidden; line-height: 0;” class=”mce_SELRES_start”></span> Hey. They’re back. It’s been more than ten years since we last heard from Jack White’s band of friends from the Detroit music scene including Brendan Benson, Jack Lawrence, and Patrick Keeler. It’s just hard not to like what they do. It’s not fancy. There are no pretenses here. Just solid hooks. And cowbell. Good to have new music from them. J.S. Ondara – “Saying Goodbye” I have not been so impressed by an artist on first listen in many, many years. The moment Ondara, a native of Nairobi, Kenya began to sing, I was mesmerized. We are talking goose pimples all the way down. I can’t explain why I am so affected by this. His voice. The harmonies. The vaguely 60’s flavored folk rock arrangements. I think this guy is going to be very special. Orville Peck – “Dead Of Night” OK. Imagine what a guy version of Lana Del Rey would sound like? With a little Chris Isaak thrown in? And David Lynch? Presto! Video may not be safe for work considering some of it was filmed at the Chicken Ranch in Nevada (the inspiration for this broadway musical and movie). Ex-Hex – “Cosmic Cave” Mary Timony (guitar, vocals), Betsy Wright (bass, vocals), and Laura Harris (drums) make up Ex-Hex. Mary Timony was at the heart of the indie-rock scene of the 90’s fronting Helium, known for their guitar based alternative rock. And that is what we get here: a high-spirited rave up with sunny harmonies and crunchy power chords. Gary Clark Jr. – “This Land”<span data-mce-type=”bookmark” style=”display: inline-block; width: 0px; overflow: hidden; line-height: 0;” class=”mce_SELRES_start”></span> Gary Clark Jr. is not mincing words – or licks – on this preview of his upcoming album. Powerful stuff, this. The Nude Party – “Feels Alright” And here we have a bunch of blokes skillfully tipping their hats to the likes of Mott The Hoople, Lou Reed, The Faces and other late 60’s/early 70’s artists. None of these guys were around when this genre of rock was all the rage the first time around. Would I mind if this sound came back around? Not. At. All. They have a reputation for putting on great live shows. Future – “Jumpin On A Jet” Future’s music nearly always keeps me engaged and in the moment. I may not be able to understand what he’s saying all the time, but I can count on imaginative beats and vocal treatments. And action movie videos. Snow Patrol – “A Dark Switch”There is more to Snow Patrol than “Chasing Cars.” Let me be clear: I admire Gary Lightbody a great deal. It’s not just about his songwriting. He is a fierce music fan in his own right. He has constantly supported upcoming artists by giving them opening slots on tours. He’s covered these artist’s songs. And he has emerged from a very low period and, with his band, released one of the best albums of 2018: Wildness. “A Dark Switch” is a great example why. Charlotte Gainsbourg – “Such A Remarkable Day” Charlotte Gainsbourg returned to releasing music a couple years ago after a seven year absence. She was busy making movies. I cut her some slack for that. She’s got a new ep on the way and this is our first taste of it. “Such A Remarkable Day” is light and airy synth pop, despite the fact that the bottom end is thick with synthesizers which percolates and pulses as her vocals drift above it all. Angels & Airwaves – “The War” Go big or go home. I’m not being snarky when I suggest that Angels & Airwaves might very well employ this as a mission statement. A&A works in many genres at once and leaves subtlety behind in the breadth of their sound. No whispering here. Kelsey Lu – “Due West” Lovely music from a woman who is the epitome of the multi-hyphenate. Kelsey Lu is a cellist, a singe and producer. And with “Due West” she brings us joy. There is a laid-back happiness here, with an arrangement that breathes and gives space to get lost in. She has her fans: “Kelsey Lu makes slow and spacious music, confronting you with lingering tones and vocal melodies that ascend and dive.”--New York Times This very well might lift you out of whatever Winter blues you are encountering. Also, produced with the help of Skrillex, and I did not see that coming. The Chemical Brothers – “MAH” This is your extra strength block rockin’ gym-friendly beats from the guys who led the way. You can party like it’s 1999. Again. Michael Franti & Spearhead – “The Flower” (feat. Victoria Canal) Michael Franti is a gentle giant. His musical evolution (from punk band the Beatnigs, to industrial hip hop outfit The Disposable Heroes of Hiphoprisy to his current band) has seen him move his activist driven approach through a variety of genres. He is genuinely one of the loveliest people I have ever met (I have done many radio related events with Michael over the past 20 years and have seen him perform since his days with the Beatnigs) and this song from his new album Stay Human 2 illustrates how his approach has changed over the years. This is an old fashioned Summer Of Love kind of protest song with a giant heart. Aesop Rock – “Kirby” Anytime Aesop Rock wants to rap poetic about his furball, I’m on board. Thanks to Joe for sending this my way. I’ve had this on repeat just to enjoy AR’s wordplay which is a percussive instrument in itself. Guster – “Overexcited” Whereupon Boston’s long-running alt-pop band channels Madness and Blur and a little Captain Sensible in this cheerful, somewhat goofy and thoroughly satisfying romp. Yes. I said romp. For the record, nobody in Guster is British. D’Angelo – “Unshaken” We have a video game to thank for this latest gift of humid and sultry R&B from D’Angelo. This is just sexy and haunting at the same time. So. Damn. Good. Sharon Van Etten – “17”What a difference five years makes. Sharon Van Etten has done a bit of a reinvention since her last release. This is not a bad thing in the least. And it in no means disparages her wonderful work leading to her new album. Instead, this new Sharon has only strengthened the intensity of her sentiments by what surely feels like a heightened confidence in what she’s doing. I’m really digging this. Joe Jackson – “Friend Better” When Joe Jackson wrapped up his most recent tour last August, he was so inspired by that series of shows that he went into the studio the next day and recorded this new album. “Friend Better” fits right along side Jackson’s most popular songs. It is the most Joe Jackson record to come from the man in a very long time and it finds him fired up and in excellent form. half•alive – “still feel.”half•alive make me smile. A lot. Their music is effortlessly sleek and sexy. That the band choreographed and directed their video makes me appreciate what they are doing all the more. Fully committed they are. Manchester Orchestra – “The Maze”Atmospheric, euphoric and rapturous. This is a glorious din indeed. THE CLASSIC: David Bowie – “Strangers When We Meet” David Bowie died just about three years ago. His music is more important to me than ever. Every decade yielded fresh directions and new elements to what was already a rich legacy. A sense of melancholia infuses the musical arrangement and there is a heaviness in Bowie’s vocals which all combines for something quite elegiac. “All our friends | Now seem so thin and frail | Slinky secrets | Hotter than the sun I had to look up rechauffe to see what it means. A most excellent addition to one’s vocabulary. ré·chauf·fé/ˌ rāˌSHōˈfā,-ˈSHōˌfā/ “a dish of warmed-up food left over from a previous meal.” In other words, leftovers. All sold out now. It is, somehow, a wheelhouse garment that other brands seem to screw up royally. But not J. Crew Factory. Crisp chino fabric, just a bit of stretch, a tail that isn’t chopped, and sleeve cuff buttons that are non-functioning (so tailoring the damn sleeves won’t cost more than the jacket itself). Currently in clearance which is an extra 60% off with the code. An additional 20% gets knocked off at checkout if you’ve signed up for their “rewards” program, which is nothing more than an email list/customer account and does NOT require you to have a J. Crew branded credit card. Plus, that rewards account gets you free shipping on this thing. Lots of wheelhouse sizes (38R, 40R, 42R, etc.) available at post time. Huge thanks to John McD. For the tip. Code is good through Thursday, 1/24. That’s all. Carry on. Steal Alert: J. Crew Factory Thompson Fit Blazer in Flex Chino for $38 published first on https://medium.com/@CostumeCorner via Tumblr Steal Alert: J. Crew Factory Thompson Fit Blazer in Flex Chino for $38 Because weâre called the Gentlemanâs Gazette and we hold ourselves out to help men be gentlemen, we thought it was a good time to discuss what it means to be a gentleman or masculinity and men in general. So without further ado, letâs watch the Gillette video and Iâll share my thoughts. What I Think About The Gillette Adâ¦Okay, so itâs obviously about the me-too movement, honestly, to me, saying, âGillette, the best a man can getâ is like saying âMcDonaldâs, the highest quality health food a man can getâ. Itâs just a complete empty statement that couldnât be further from the truth but again, thatâs just my opinion. BullyingYeah, bullying is not something a gentleman should engage in, neither is sexual harassment, but if we actually take a step back and look at a piece that we created in 2016, itâs called what it means to be a gentleman today, and we simply tried to analyze what it means in this day and age because you know back in the day, there were simply different terms for gentleman right? It used to be a courteous or honorable man but all those things donât necessarily ring true anymore in this day and age. So we came up with these 11 points, right? One is a gentleman is imperfect. A gentleman has high standards, heâs well dressed, he has good manners, heâs open-minded, heâs interesting and informed, his actions match his words and he treats other people with respect. Now, when you touch a womanâs ass, thatâs anything but respectful because you just treat her as an object, right? So I know there was a time when this was considered okay or men would say âWell, she wants itâ Frankly, Iâm happy to live in this day and age where everyone should be able to decide whether they can be touched or not and they can express feelings and theyâre in control what happens to their body and not someone else. Honestly, I would agree! Just laughing things off or saying âOh, itâs not that big of a dealâ is not gonna solve the deeper issue of an imbalance of power that is often there. Now, donât get me wrong! Everything we do is for men and we will never do a ladies Gazette or a Womanâs Gazette because weâre passionate about helping men and becoming better. ![]() Now a great man who is often not discussed at first when it comes to a gentleman, Vin Diesel. He had those wise words to say âBeing male is a matter of birth, being a man is a matter of age but being a gentleman is a matter of choiceâ and to me, that really rings home because it is very very true. I didnât have a decision in whether Iâm a man or not, I was born that way. When I turned 18, I became a man but by trying to become better every day and to live to a certain standard where I treat others with respect, I hold myself out to be a gentleman where Iâm aspiring to be one. I know itâs hard, we all make mistakes, I did them and weâre not always on our A-game, however, that doesnât mean that we canât strive to be that. Okay, so in this case, for example, I doubt the gentleman actually thinks that heâs behaving in an ungentlemanly way but by touching her and saying what sheâs actually trying to say is heâs basically belittling her right? and you never, as a gentleman, want to belittle others, you want to treat them respectfully and a question to ask is, would he have treated a man or would he have treated an equal like that? and the answer is probably not because putting your hand on someoneâs shoulder and trying to articulate what they want to say is usually what you do with a little boy or when you basically want to show that theyâre just learning and theyâre not up to par yet to talk at the table with the big shots. Now, boys will be boys, yes! I was a boy. Boys are often more rambunctious, they want to fight, and they want to have little toy weapons and while all that is okay, itâs not okay to accept other kids being bullied or beaten up simply because theyâre different and frankly, when I was a boy, I engaged in behavior where we had one guy in our school and we knew that he would kind of flip out or go crazy when we just kind of teased him and so we would tease him just to get that reaction. Looking back, that was a very ungentlemanly behavior and I think it would have been great if someone would have stepped up and gone in between and told us boys âHey itâs not okay to do thatâ and rather than just ignoring it and letting us tease that boy who probably had a very hard time. #MeTooMovementYes, itâs true. The me-too movement is here, it is real and itâs good. I think that itâs a subject of discussion because oftentimes, it was not discussed or just treated as something that is not worth being discussed. I donât know, to me it seems more like a marketing slogan that they try to use to push their products but if I remove myself from that, I think being a gentleman is inherently connected to improving and getting better, taking criticism, and just learn from it and grow. What I mean by that is if we stop getting better, we already stopped being good and itâs something that all Oliver Cromwell once said and it was a very wise slogan. So just because this ad is bringing up negative behavior that some men, not all men express or demonstrate, doesnât mean that all men are bad but I think itâs a good reminder to just reevaluate our own behavior because I think, often, we donât think about our own behavior as bad but others, particularly women, look at it and feel like itâs sexist whereas we think âoh itâs totally okayâ In my opinion, itâs just good to take a step back and say âhey, what behaviors do I display that may be sexist?â In Case You Missed The Gillette Ad:Civil CourageWhatâs displayed here is more like a form of civil courage. When you see something that is not okay, you speak up and I think as a gentleman, thatâs always the honorable thing to do, you donât just walk away and let others do their thing but if you see that someone is getting beaten up, speak up. If you see that a woman is maybe harassed or treated in a way that makes her uncomfortable, speak up and give her the feeling of comfort and I think thatâs something where, we as men, can just reevaluate our behavior and think what weâre doing is truly respecting others, including women. Yeah, thatâs another aspect of it right? If weâre men and we are insecure in ourselves, itâs great to help others feel better and empower them and ultimately, being a person that others want to be around with, that helps them to grow rather than someone who tries to push him down or belittles them. I think thatâs something that we can all aspire to as human beings and just as men or women or LGBT, it doesnât matter. Itâs just equality that great people have. âDo As I Say, Not Do As I Doâ
Yeah, itâs the old game, right? Do as I say, not do as I do. Living by example is a lot more powerful than just telling people what to do and actually showing, as a dad or someone who is an important figure in someone elseâs life and acting responsibly, has a huge impact which is why a lot of sports people oftentimes get disciplined if they donât act well in public because it has such a big impact on kids and if itâs okay for other people to do stuff, then little kids think itâs okay for them to do stuff. So our actions donât just affect ourselves but also others who look up to us. So keep that in mind! The Ad As A Wholeâ¦The best a man can get, looking at the ad as a whole, I think a lot of people got offended by it because they felt like it was just pointing out negative things about men. Now, I think it pointed out certain aspects of negative male behavior that is sometimes displayed and itâs something that men can change, that they can get over with. A lot of men donât actually do this stuff which is great and men are important in our society, right? I mean men fight in the military, men help to rescue others, the suicide rate for men is higher, depression rate for men is higher, so men sacrifice a lot in our society and it doesnât mean that men are not valued or that they have to change everything they do but there are certain aspects where we engage in a certain sexist behavior or we do things that belittle others and I think that can be changed and thatâs a valid point. Do I Think Gillette Did That Because They Genuinely Believe In That?
Frankly, I donât know. Iâm rather doubtful. To me, itâs a big marketing thing because theyâre really having a hard time, from a business point of view, theyâre selling products to women and they just want to be a part of the conversation and clearly, with 24 million views after just a week, theyâre achieving that goal. Will It Help Gillette Turn Around Sales?
I donât know, Iâm rather doubtful because the product itself sucks but at the end of the day, I think itâs good to discuss these things and bring men to think about their behavior and maybe have others think about their behavior too. Just because being a woman doesnât mean you canât belittle others or you can be unfair to others. If you look at things like the CEOs of Fortune 500 companies, do you realize that 95% of men or an average, men still earn more than women not necessarily because they do better work but because theyâre traditionally considered to be the breadwinner so it is just something to consider and looking at overall wealth, I mean 88% of all billionaires today are men. CONCLUSIONI think we have some ways to go to achieve true gender equality but that doesnât mean I have to be apologetic of being a man and Iâm very secure in who I am but it doesnât mean that I canât improve. I try to improve every day, I want to make our website better, I want to make our products better, I want to be a better dad, and I want to treat people better and having that mindset, I think helps me and if Iâm just shutting down when someone criticizes me and just say âoh Iâm offended Iâm not gonna do or buy this product againâ because they criticize me in a way, then that stops me from from getting better because I have a picture of myself in mind and by putting down any valid criticism, youâre just actually holding yourself back from achieving that level. So again, Iâm not telling you what to do or that youâre a bad person, Iâm just saying reconsider your behavior, think about it, and be conscious of it and thatâs what you can do to be a better man and therefore, you can strive to be a gentleman and aspire to be that and help others and help them grow and be a better person. The Gillette Ad and the Modern Gentleman published first on https://medium.com/@CostumeCorner via Tumblr The Gillette Ad and the Modern Gentleman What are you going to wear? Sometimes it’s good to look at a few suggestions then add your own tweaks and ideas. That’s what these are for. First impressions are important. In the smart-casual workplace, you want to look the part, without coming off as trying too hard. Thankfully, this seems to be the new standard for the average office. It’s dressed down from the suit, tie and oxfords, but elevated from a more laidback modern office. Smart casual has the most variety in pieces that work well together and is my personal favorite. These looks transition well from the office, to happy hour, to dinner with a significant other, to a parent-teacher conference. The Sportcoat: Made in Italy 1901 Extra Trim Fit Wool/Silk Sportcoat – $149.49 ($299). More texture and a brighter shade than your standard navy blue sportcoat will make you a subtle standout at the office. (If you want a more classic navy option, my go-to is this piece from Bonobos) Half off, and since it’s Nordstrom, it still ships AND returns for free, just in case you don’t like it upon arrival. The Shirt: Banana Republic Slim Fit Tech-Stretch Windowpane- $53.70 ($89.50). We’re talking smart casual, so I like to utilize a small, subtle pattern underneath the sportcoat for some texture and visual interest. It keeps things conservative, without being overly basic. Windowpane and button collars create a versatile look that transitions from the office to whatever calls after you clock out. The Pants: Bonobos Stretch Washed Chinos in Single Malt- $34 FINAL w/ METALDETECTOR ($98). What a beautiful name and interesting shade of brown on these. Winter months allow for some experimentation with earth tones, and the hue on these Stretch Washed Chinos from Bonobos are unique enough to stand out on their own, while neutral enough to let the brighter blue of the sportcoat be the highlight. Down to steal-worthy prices with the extra 50% off code, but make sure you know your fit with Bonobos, as these are final sale. The Belt: Banana Republic Embossed Edge Leather Belt in Brown – $29.70 ($49.50). Edge embossment adds some nice detail, without being too much. This shade of brown plays well with the other earth tones in the outfit, and provides a nice pop with the polished buckle. The Shoes: 1901 Brooks Suede Chelsea – $79.97 ($124.95). From Nordstrom’s 1901 line, this chelsea can serve well in and out of the office and be dressed down for more casual use. Minimal detailing keeps it classic and the taupe suede offers great contrast with the dark chino in this outfit. The Watch: Tissot Visodate White Dial Brown Leather Strap- $399. A personal favorite from a reliable, well-known Swiss brand at a discount price. Jomashop is one of the better grey market retailers, but know that if you encounter issues with the piece down the line, repairs will be on you. The white dial and brown strap will work with any outfit you can put together for a smart casual workplace, and standout with the day/date window- a rarity in this price range. The Socks: Smartwool Burgee Geometric Socks – $20.95. I will not apologize for loving prints on socks. A little loud, but Smartwool makes amazing stuff so they’ll last forever. Wool/Nylon/Elastane keeps things nice and airy for a long day at the office, wherever that might be. About the Author: Jason P. is a Dappered devotee, having curated the majority of his wardrobe through the site. He is an enthusiast of wool sweaters, chino pants, and affordable automatic watches. Todd Snyder + Champion Italian Suiting Wool Rugby – $119 ($198)Yes, a bit spendy even on sale. But play your cards right, wait for the next extra 20% – 25% off sale items code, and you could get it for less. That and it’s not made from spongey, crummy feeling heavyweight cotton. Instead, it’s made from an Italian winter-weight suiting wool. And those stripes are something else. Made in Portugal. Peaky Blinders Season 5 (they’ve finished filming, no release date set)Official synopsis is as follows: “Series five of Steven Knight’s crime family saga finds the world thrown into turmoil by the financial crash of 1929. Opportunity and misfortune are everywhere. When Tommy Shelby MP (Cillian Murphy) is approached by a charismatic politician with a bold vision for Britain, he realises that his response will affect not just his family’s future but that of the entire nation.” Bravus Brewing Non-Alcoholic IPA or Stout – $11.99 per 6 packAn utter revelation. Total game changer. Perfect for those of us who are doing Dry January / The Alcohol Experiment / just taking a break from the booze for whatever reason. No, it doesn’t taste JUST like your favorite IPA or Stout. Yes, it’s light-years ahead of O’douls and Kaliber. So, so far ahead of either of those. I’d suggest being a week or two deep into taking a break so your taste buds have had a chance to re-calibrate before giving one of these a try. I was particularly impressed with the IPA. So much so that I ordered a full damn case of it after my first can. IPA is 102 calories. Stout is 110. And unlike alcoholic beers, these don’t turn off the signals in your brain that say “hey, I’m full, let’s stop,” so, you’re more likely to give it a rest after one or two. Bye bye love handles. B.R. Italian Moleskin Trucker Jacket – $99.99 when an extra 50% off sale items is running ($228)That dog’ll hunt. Italian Moleskin (a super soft, cotton fabric with a short nap like suede), a nice olive green shade, and matte looking gunmetal snaps. Perfect for those of us that default to jeans a lot, like the look of trucker jackets, yet do NOT want to do the denim on denim thing. 4.6/5 stars after 15 reviews. On sale. They’ve been running a ton of extra 50% off sale items deals, so, should drop to under $100 with one of those deals. Not final sale yet either, so if it doesn’t work out, you can return it. Goodthreads Men’s Slim-fit Stretch Performance Chino – $40Uncle Jeff’s internet emporium is at it again. At first I figured these would be an all poly pant that would almost certainly go “swish swish” when you walked. Doesn’t look to be the case. Instead, they’re 50% Cotton, 46% Nylon, and 4% Spandex. Sounds a little like the Banana Republic Core Temp chino pant, for noticeably less cash. BONUS: Suitsupply Havana Wool Blend Green Knit Jacket – $399Mentioned in last Thursday’s handful but worth another look. Italian 80% wool / 20% poly jersey knit blend. Dark Emerald Green color leans cool (blue hues) not warm (yellow hues) so it’ll be a bit more muted, despite being an unexpected color. Should do great with wool dress trousers as well as dark denim. And then there’s the fact that you’ll stylistically win St Patrick’s day every year. Ships and returns for free being that it’s Suitsupply. Want more most wanted? You’ll find three of the best, with a few picks from each, to start the week below. #1. Brooks Brothers: Extra 25% off Clearance Items
Hot dog, it’s sportcoat-huntin’ season. Couple of knit options up there, but some standard wool hopsacks as well. Of course, there’s plenty more to the Brooks Brothers sale section, but sportcoats that are on sale, and then get another cut are always a solid bet from BB. #2. Massdrop: Made in the UK Loake Cap Toes – $224.99 FINAL ($360)Goodyear welted, Made in the UK, and your choice of either a smooth leather sole, or a studded dainite sole for grip. At checkout, it’s your choice between black shoes with leather or Dainite soles, the dark brown shoes with leather or Dainite soles, or the mahogany shoes with leather soles. It IS UK sizing though. So, most are gonna wanna size down a full size. Just be careful with that. #3. Banana Republic: Extra 50% off Sale Items + 40% off no BR Merch Exclusions
Still going strong. Holy cow there’s a lot in there. Welcome to end of season winter clearance. Items are coming and going. Big fan of that Motion-Stretch cotton blend blazer, and the leather laptop sleeves are pretty nice too. Sizes are scattered, but picks above had at least a decent size selection at post time. BONUS Allen Edmonds: Extra 30% off Factory 2ndsThese aren’t without risk. Hardly. In fact, it’s a gamble. $25 restocking fee on any returns through the mail. And it’s a little concerning that AE is now saying that after this extra 30% off deal, Factory 2nds will only be available for limited times moving forward? The hell does that mean? That just plays into the #narrative that the #menswear internet community (by the way I hate hashtags but I’m using them as descriptors here) is pushing that overall quality by AE is dropping. So no more 2nds / Shoebank open at all times? Does that mean they’re loosening standards on what makes a first quality shoe? Whether that’s true or not seems to be less relevant than ever. If they don’t think customers who pay any attention aren’t asking that question, they’re seriously underestimating the chatter that goes on around them. Also worth a mention…
Tuesday Sales Tripod – Extra 25% off Brooks Brothers Sale, English Made shoes, & More published first on https://medium.com/@CostumeCorner via Tumblr Tuesday Sales Tripod – Extra 25% off Brooks Brothers Sale, English Made shoes, & More What are you going to wear? Sometimes it’s good to look at a few suggestions then add your own tweaks and ideas. That’s what these are for. On the first day at a new job, playing it safe is rarely, if ever, bad. It’s an opportunity to read the room and gauge the standard of attire at your new place of employ, and go from there. For more formal settings, like legal or investment firms, a well-fitted suit is your best friend. These settings are about professionalism and commanding a room. The suit states your intention to show up, put in work and be taken seriously; while smartly selected accessories can set you apart, appropriately, from your colleagues and give you a chance to add your own personality to the office. The Suit: Suitsupply Napoli S110s Wool in Charcoal – $399. All due respect to the Dappered suit of the year winner, but Suitsupply is my personal favorite suit offering. I swear by Suitsupply’s blue line Napoli fit offerings, and they usually have more availability in common sizes than other options in this price range. Charcoal grey will provide you with endless shirt & tie combinations, and give tan and brown leathers a bit more spotlight than a navy number might. The Shirt: Nordstrom Men’s Shop Trim Fit Non-Iron Shirt- $39. On the first day, we wear white. It’s safe, and you’ll surely see more than a handful of peers wearing the same outfit. And that’s GOOD on the first day. This shirt is a workhorse. The trim fit says modern without overdoing it, and the button-down collars will be useful for tieless Tuesdays in the summer. Speaking of… The Tie: The Tie Bar Navy White Dot- $19. Nordstrom offering Tie Bar accessories has been a game-changer for more than a few of us, as you can now pick up one or two of their pieces without having to reach the brand’s $50 free shipping threshold on their website. Opt for a tie with classic base color, one or two accent colors, and a subtle but smart texture. The blue with white dots here keeps it conservative, without making you look like you’re running for a political office. The Belt: GAP Suede Centerbar Belt- $27.99 ($39.95). Belts matter. One of the simplest, yet most valuable, pieces of style advice I learned early is that belts SHOULD be more form than function. If you need a belt to keep your pants up, buy new pants. Suede is a strong option, as the texture is just different enough to set it apart from the other waist-keepers in the office. Sure it’s a little different, but that’s the point. Be a little different. The Shoes: Allen Edmonds Fifth Avenue in Coffee- $425. Cap-toe Oxford? Check. Subtle brogue detailing and a more-interesting-than-dirt brown color? Check. Asking myself easy to answer questions to appear intelligent? Check. These offer all the formality of the Park Aves, with significantly more visual interest. The coffee shade here can be used anywhere a dark brown can. Be patient, grasshopper. These can be had for much, much less if you’re patient and wait for one of Allen Edmonds’ various sales throughout the year. Want to get a little more fancy for a lot less? There’s always the wholecut MacKenzie. Currently $205.60 in clearance w/ the extra 20% off code PLUS20. But be warned. In some conservative, dressed up work places, wholecuts like the MacKenzie might be a little too flashy. The Watch: Orient Polaris GMT- $345. Truly, I believe there is no better value in the horological world than this watch. A 40-hour power reserve meter and GMT functionality makes this a compelling and complicated piece for the price. Blue hands on a white, diamond-textured dial make this piece pop without being gaudy, as so many watches fail to do. As a self-professed watch nerd, this is one of my top 3 favorite timepieces under a grand. The Orient picture in the header image on my wrist is 6 years old and hasn’t had a single issue. That piece is out of production, but a similar style is available as part of their Orient Star line, albeit far more expensive than the Polaris GMT. The Socks: Nordstrom Dot Socks – $12.50. A slight bit of contrast and a subtle pattern provide the style you want, while these’ll blend in all the same. These are a poly/spandex blend though, so if you’re a devotee of merino? Try these ribbed merino blend socks instead. About the Author: Jason P. is a Dappered devotee, having curated the majority of his wardrobe through the site. Style Scenario: First Day at Work – Business Formal published first on https://medium.com/@CostumeCorner via Tumblr Style Scenario: First Day at Work – Business Formal EXTRA 50% off Final Sale items w/ METALDETECTORThat’s… new. I mean, I can’t remember the last time Bonobos did an extra half off their sale section. (But remember WAY back when they did half off their site in order to celebrate 50k Facebook likes? And it crashed and burned? Good times. Feels like that was the stone age.) Lots of prices that are eye popping. Yes, it’s all final sale. But Bonobos has a pretty dedicated following who knows their sizing when it comes to their products. It’s a little confusing because Bonobos offers a ton of colors and fits in their wheelhouse stuff, yet not all is on sale, but we’ll do our best to clarify below. Happy hunting. Original Washed Chinos – $24 FINAL ($88)The Bonobos Flagship pant for less than a pair of Dockers? Yes please. And if you like the 100% cotton washed chinos, you best be gettin’ while the gettin’ is good. Rumor has it that these are gonna be discontinued in favor of their stretch washed chinos. Looks like all colors are on sale. Stretch Washed Chinos – $34 FINAL ($98)I’d say these are the originals that built the Bonobos empire, but they aren’t. Because these are 98% cotton and 2% stretch. Tons of colors to pick from, and more than a few fits to fit plenty of body types. Everything after the “clean slates” color, as indicated with the color swatches above, should be on sale. Lots of sizes and fits at post time. Jetsetter Stretch Italian Wool Blazer – $184 FINAL ($500)Oh man. This thing has been buggin’ eyeballs (mine, mostly) since it hit their site in the fall. Italian blend, 76% Wool, 23% Poly, 1% Elastane. Just butterfly lined in the back. Also shown at the top of the post. 4-Way Stretch Jeans – $49 FINAL ($188)Like BR’s Rapid Movement denim, only fancier. I would say that I feel like the rise on these is a little lower than the Rapid Movement, so, know that. Slim and Straight fits have a decent size selection at post time. 90% Cotton, 7% Polyester, 3% Elastane. Made in LA Polos or Henleys – $14 – $12.50 FINAL ($68 – $58)Fourteen bucks for a made in the USA polo? Now I’m starting to get worried that this sale is some sort of hint about big changes coming to Bonobos. I don’t know what (they’ve already been bought out by Walmart) but… I dunno, when I see cuts this big I wonder sometimes. And no, I have no inside information. They’re probably just gonna keep on keepin’ on. Pajama Set in Burgundy Lion Staredown – $39 FINAL ($98)I’m a gym shorts and breathable t-shirt kinda guy myself, but if I WERE to dive into the classic pajama world, you can bet they’d be burgundy with lion heads all over them. Unconstructed Italian Wool Blazer in Navy or Grey plaid – $189 FINAL ($550)More plaid blazers. This time, in their unconstructed, Italian hopsack wool. Unlined and unconstructed and totally awesome. Navy plaid is also shown at the top of the post. Washable Merino Crew Neck Sweater – $34 FINAL ($98)Huh. Never thought I’d see the day where Bonobos had merino for less than UNIQLO. I know, I know… these are final sale where UNIQLO is $39 and NOT final sale. But still. Washable Merino V Neck Sweater – $34 FINAL ($98)V necks too eh? Nifty. Italian Brushed 5-Pocket Pant – $59 FINAL ($178)Garment dyed, brushed fabric from Italy cut in a 5-pocket jean style. Sale colors are limited to the three options shown above. Foundation Italian Wool Blazer – $157.50 FINAL ($400)Their basic, wheelhouse, navy blazer. No patch pockets. No gold buttons. Simple, modern, and clean. A little too suit-jacket-y for some, but, it sure looks good with the gray trousers pictured above. Fully lined. Heather 5-Pocket Pants – $44 FINAL ($138)We got a lot of winter left. Lots of cozy but still polished. Stretch brushed twill with classic 5 pocket styling. The Banff Quilted Jacket – $84 FINAL ($248)No wool exterior option this year Bonobos? Bummer. Always kinda liked the looks of the wool versions. Alpaca Blend Wool Cable Shawl Collar Cardigan – $84 FINAL ($248)An over abundance of cozy. So much so that if you slip it on, you might enter a permanent state of hibernation. Don’t blame me if you go full Rip Van Winkle. Unconstructed Italian Wool Sportcoats in Brown or Burgundy – $140 FINAL ($400)Maybe not everyone’s first choice(s), although the Brown is pretty wheelhouse, but being that they’re not first choice is precisely why they’re on sale. Still 100% Italian hopsack wool, unconstructed, and unlined in the back. Travel Jeans – $39 FINAL ($108)98% cotton and 2% spandex. Textured look (and a bit of a textured feel) to the fabric. Garment dyed. These used to be made in the USA? I don’t know if they are anymore or not. Select colors are on sale, and thus, getting the extra 50% off cut. Felted Wool Blend Bomber Sweater – $69 FINAL ($178)All kinds of right. They call it wool blend, but then in the description it says it’s 100% boiled merino? Beats me. Looks great though. Jetsetter Stretch Italian Wool Blazer – $200 FINAL ($500)What only the coolest of the cool professors rock on campus. All Italian wool. Half lined with a lightweight construction. Core Muscle Tee – $9 FINAL ($38)Bonobos workout gear at C9 by Champion at Target prices! Weird. Anyway, something to wear while you’re clangin’ and bangin’ your way through your new year’s resolution. Foundation Italian Wool Suits – $250 FINAL ($750)At the bottom here because sizes are pretty scattered, and LOTS of the pants are just plumb sold out. Which is weird. But still worth a mention. The extra 50% off Bonobos final sale items code METALDETECTOR expires on Thursday 1/24.
